"Since graduating with my BFA from Converse College, I have been learning new
processes and methods of making art outside the classroom as a professional artist.
A new paradigm has been grafted into my work which is one based on creating a
thin line between minimalism and decadence as well as deconstructing process -
concept to image. No longer basing my work on such transparent personal events,
I have sought to convey images which evoke the same intense emotions but with
a cleaner and a more broad photographic palette. The images may seem harder to
read and this is intentional. I believe they should be more ascetic, celibate
and ephemeral. By doing this the concepts behind my work are justified, respected,
and the balance of sacredness is achieved.
My latest series "Pentimenti" invokes what I call "ephemeral beings" to bring
to light tiny truths essential to the human race. Personifying the epiphany, I
seek to translate as close as possible these intricate truths illuminated to me,
which are in fact ineffable truths - this presents the challenge of conveying
what is ineffable. How exactly does one express such spiritual and primitive insights
into humanity? One can only learn the language of what is ineffable and translate
by way of the celibate-parable, gentle-evocation, and silent-narrative. These
images merely serve as a reminder of what the human spirit already knows."
