I feel a responsibility to create images that not only display my thoughts, but
bring light to a situation worthy of discussion. My work is a constant process
of appropriation and change, and strongly borrows from tradition. Nothing is original,
and everything is influenced. Whether I paint a portrait, still life, or landscape,
this has been done before. I want to elaborate on the idea of tradition and explore
the idea of contemporary verses classical. I am a product of Tradition, whether
it be as a student, or an artist, it is impossible for me escape images engraved
into my head.
By using imagery from old books, magazines, newspapers, old photos and pop culture,
I am exploring what values and traditions each image carries with it. My work
should be a constant process of research, experimentation, reproduction and change.
